Financial gifts allow for a dog’s spay/neutering, preventative vet treatments, housing and feeding, extended training, outreach programs, and so much for dogs in need. When you’re volunteering with OTAT, you’re joining a group of like-minded, supportive and fun individuals. Last January, we partnered with a Chicago dog shelter, One Tail at a Time, in an effort to clear the cages. They also head up adoption events, run marathons for the organization, transport pups to and from the vet, take dogs out for adventures and so, so much more. Opening up your home to fostering saves a life at a time, and it’s an extremely rewarding experience knowing you are helping to bring a dog and their new family together. One Tail asks fosters to hold on to a dog for a week or two so they can ensure the dog is healthy and ready to move into a permanent home. Bringing a dog in for a short stint allows a pup a quick place to crash while they receive veterinary treatment, and they can begin to learn to live in a safe and healthy home. ![]() How can you help? There are several ways.įostering literally saves lives. With plans to open a new facility to house the flu-exposed dogs coming out of the city shelter, they will be able to rescue, treat and rehabilitate more dogs than ever. In 2017, this group rescued over 500 dogs, and they are on track to rescue a lot more this year. And not only are they just saving dogs, OTAT spearheads CRISP, an intervention program that diverts dogs from going into the city pound by placing them directly in rescue, and Community Pet Day, where lower socio-economic areas are treated with free spay/neuter clinics and on-site vet care. ![]() There is no question that the people who run OTAT are some of the hardest working and most dedicated people we’ve seen.
